The mission of the Healey Family Student Center is to provide a welcoming environment for Georgetown students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors and to support programs, activities and services that promote community, personal growth, lifelong learning, and responsible citizenship in service to others.
The student center aims to uphold the Jesuit and Catholic Identity of Georgetown University by providing a central meeting place and facility for the community to develop insights through reflection and intellectual inquiry.
The HFSC strives to serve as a “living room” for the campus through the following:
- Providing versatile facilities, efficient services, excellent conveniences, and diverse programs for the University
- Afford the opportunity to learn, know, and understand one another through informal association outside the classroom
- Act as a laboratory for teaching student leadership strategies and human relation skills through work experience, involvement in student organizations, building community which enhance their daily lives on campus, and experience in program development through execution
The Role of the College Union
Adopted by the Association of College Unions International's general membership in 1996, this statement is based on the "1956 Role of the College Union statement."
"The union is the community center of the college, serving students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. By whatever form or name, a college union is an organization offering a variety of programs, activities, services, and facilities that, when taken together, represent a well-considered plan for the community life of the college."
